How To Choose The Right Allergy Relief Filters

Why You Need Allergy Relief Filters

Viruses have turned the world upside down and unfortunately, now, for those that deal with seasonal allergies, there’s another hurdle to deal with – awkwardness. When you’re out for an essential grocery shopping trip or another reason and you cough, everyone looks at you like you’ve got the plague.

It is frustrating when you follow all the appropriate safety precautions and then get looked at sideways because you deal with allergies. Well, many things can help provide some support for your seasonal allergies. If you follow the recommendations below, you’ll at least find some relief at home, and may even see your symptoms improve with the use of filter replacements.

Use HEPA Filters

hepa filtersHEPA stands for “high-efficiency particulate air” and is a filter that cleans the air you breathe. It works by forcing air through a fine mesh filter. When air flows through the filter, the filter traps particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, dust particles, and smoke.

Each of these items is a common allergen that creates issues for those with seasonal allergies. When the air from outside enters your home and it is heavy with pollen, then it needs to be cleaned so you can breathe easier inside your home.

HEPA filters can be found in most air purifiers including single or multi-room units. Brands you recognize use these filters because of how well they work. These brands include Honeywell, Levoit, Austin Air, Winix, Allen Air, Sharp, Philips, and Whirlpool. Nearly any air filter you purchase will use a HEPA air filter to remove the majority of allergens from the air you breathe.

How Can Charcoal Filters Help?

charcoal filters

Charcoal filters are growing in popularity and for a good reason. Charcoal can be used in numerous ways from purifying water and helping detox your body, to purifying the air as well.

When activated carbon filters are used, the process is similar to other air filters. With a charcoal filter, the air is forced through the filter, all the pollen, dust, dirt particles, and other allergy-causing particles are trapped in the charcoal.

“Activated carbon” is very porous and traps allergens within the pores. The air that comes through the other side of a charcoal filter purifier, then, is clean, safe, and filtered. Pores and other allergens are cleared from the air by the filter and you are able to breathe easier.

Try HEPA Eco Mode

eco friendlyHEPA has an eco attachment to help your filter work less and make your air cleaner. The eco attachment fits on the outside of your standard HEPA filter. With the extra attachment, large particles are removed by the charcoal filter and smaller particles are removed by the HEPA filter.

Why is this an “eco” mode? The HEPA filter by itself will filter your air. However, with only one filter, the unit needs to work that much harder. With an eco filter attachment, the attached filter will first get all the large particles removed.

When the air then is forced through the main filter, the machine will have less work to do in order to clean the air of the smaller particles only. This conserves more energy for the machine and requires fewer filter replacements as well.
